What "NDAA-compliant" means for a drone propeller
NDAA covered-country and flow-down requirements ban federal agencies from purchasing or operating UAS — and their components — from covered foreign entities, and they extend to federal grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. Compliance is required at the component level, not just the system level, and primes flow the requirements down to their suppliers. For a propeller, four things have to hold: a non-covered manufacturer, no covered-entity materials anywhere in the supply chain, full traceability documentation, and a compliant production facility. Why the props you already fly are the problem
Most US FPV and Group 2 airframes were designed and tuned around Gemfan- and HQProp-class tri-blade propellers — foreign-made parts that programs under covered-country flow-downs typically can't fly. What "drop-in" has to mean
A replacement propeller only spares you a redesign if it matches the geometry the platform was tuned around: same diameter, same pitch, same blade count, same rotation options, compatible hub. That's the bar Anvil engineers to — each size in the line is referenced to the specific foreign part it replaces. And because honest data matters more than marketing in this market: no performance numbers are published until they're backed by real test data.

Materials
Material follows application, not size. Glass-fiber-reinforced PA66 goes where a platform needs stiffness under load — lift, payload, heavy multirotor. Polycarbonate goes where it needs impact survival and low rotational mass — racing, freestyle, training, attritable. Several sizes are offered in both, and the right one depends on what the airframe is doing rather than how big the propeller is. Custom and Group 3 requirements outside the standard line are handled as engineered programs, not catalog stock.
How to vet any supplier (including us)
- Where is the propeller molded, and who owns the facility?
- Where do the resin and fiber reinforcement come from — documented?
- What ships with the part: lot numbers, material certs, supplier declarations, chain of custody?
- Are any suppliers in the chain covered entities or their subsidiaries?
